Being a Franchise Consultant is a niche within the franchise industry. In fact, most people haven’t even heard of the profession or understand what it means to be one.

We’re here to answer what it really means to be a franchise consultant, how one becomes a true professional in the industry, and how to have the most opportunity to succeed.

A Nod to How the Industry has Evolved

To be a franchise consultant today is a far cry from what it was when FBA was formed in 2008.

Today, there are large databases of franchises – each searchable by all kinds of niche data. We now have candidate assessments, systems to match clients to franchisors, automated processes, and diversity in acquiring leads.

Of course, this is more efficient than past processes. However, with the evolution of consulting, there is even more confusion of how just to break into the industry.

A Franchise Consultant and Their Role in the Process

So, to define, a franchise consultant is someone who gives advice based on their experience. Like any consultant, their job is to provide advice, solutions, and alternatives in order to reach a goal.

It’s important to note, there’s a heavy responsibility for franchise consultants to honor and respect their clients – they don’t take this lightly.

They understand that this is a business you have to be involved in. There also is the weight of the decision their candidates are making. The determination to help them to make the best decision is top priority.

Also, it’s important to identify your strengths and find a niche that you’re motivated to succeed in – for you and your clients. This is how you become successful.

Essentially, the franchise consultant is engaged with their client through the whole process. They deep dive into the different industries that their client is well suited for and work to find them a fit which they qualify. This means being knowledgeable about franchise concepts, the specific industry, and how their client will integrate into the business.

Challenges and Benefits of Franchise Consultants

Being a franchise consultant is to have a grasp on growing a business and network. This does not come overnight. When consultants are just starting out in the industry, they may not know many people. Or if they do, maybe it’s there industry knowledge which is not yet established.

Getting to a point in their career where they’re well connected and up to date in the business is hard work. And to simultaneously aid clients in finding their perfect franchise – well, it’s hard work!

However, the connections made along the way eventually enable franchise consultants to reap the benefits of a flexible schedule. This means working from home while earning a comfortable living.

But remember: there isn’t just one way to succeed.  That’s one of the greatest things about this this business. Everyone is different and they each have something special to share.

This is why we at FBA love sharing our stories and hearing yours, too.
