Leveraging His Real Estate Business, with a Franchise Broker Certification

In March of 2015, Dale Shepherd joined the Franchise Brokers Association (FBA) and brought over his wealth of knowledge, not just as a successful business person, but also his real estate business resources and skills, that greatly facilitate his new role as a franchise consultant. He joined the FBA to expand his service offering to a new channel of customers who want to start or acquire new businesses in various industries through franchising.
Dale is a U.S. Air Force veteran having served almost eight years during the Vietnam War era. After serving for the armed forces, he worked in the corporate world in multiple roles such as President, Vice President of Finance, CFO, COO, Managing Director, Turnaround and Business Consultant, and many other roles over a business and consulting career that lasted from 1973 to 2012. This included seventeen years at General Electric.
During his career, he has had significant corporate and consulting experience with start-ups, business planning, acquisitions, and turnaround situations and has led or played a key role in many acquisitions that have ranged in purchase price from $7 million, a $250 million revenue company, to a $2.3 billion finance manager for General Electronic Company’s acquisition of Borg Warner Chemical in 1988.
Since 2012, Dale has worked as a Commercial Real Estate Agent and a Business Broker in Southeast Florida based in Fort Lauderdale. All of that has lead to where he is now – an FBA Franchise Consultant.

Changing Directions – Becoming a Franchise Broker

I had customers asking me to help them buy a business. I felt that franchises represented a better value-add to my customers than buying an existing business and paying someone else for their sweat equity.

Dale’s hard work ethic and significant experience evaluating businesses are key characteristics that have made Dale a prime example of Realtors who will succeed in the franchise industry.
Within a couple of months joining the FBA, he was able to lock down three Healthier4U vending business opportunities. As with most of our trained franchise brokers, Dale’s candidates were immediately pleased with his turn-key services and commitment to making sure they understood the entire process from beginning to end. Great communication is key when facilitating a franchise sales deal between a new investor and the franchisor to ensure high quality interaction.

Each new business that I review is like opening a Christmas present, you never know what you are going to get. Also it is exciting to see how successful businesses have positioned themselves. Start to finish the franchise deal I just closed was three months. The Healthier4U vending machine deals were very quick. Nothing specific, except that the franchisor was complementary on the work effort and was very impressed that this is the way FBA Brokers are trained.
