The Hunger Games

A group from the FBA volunteered at the Feeding Children Everywhere event this past weekend in Orlando. The group was very excited to be a part of this worthwhile cause and participated, along with friends, family and members from their church in preparing over 2,400 meals. Within one week, all of these meals will have been delivered to and consumed by the students of Ferncreek Elementary, a local public school, where nearly 100% of the students qualify for free lunch. In addition to helping pack up the meals, merchandise was available for sale at the event and each merchandise provides additional meals to be donated. For example, a T-shirt purchase provides 40 additional meals.

The meals consist of lintels (a super food packed with protein), rice, and Himalayan sea salt (which has natural minerals unlike normal table salt), and an herb mixture. These dry meals require only boiling water for preparation, and are specifically designed to address nutritional deficiencies caused by starvation. The FBA group divided into 4 teams to foster a fun yet competitive atmosphere and increase production efficiency.  FBA team members also brought friends and family with them to help out. Everyone involved had a great time!

Feeding Children Everywhere is a social charity that empowers and mobilizes people to assemble healthy meals for hungry children. Events in Feeding Children Everywhere founder Don Campbell’s life made him the man of the house at an early age. As a result, Don became the family chef at 10 years old and has been inviting people to share in his love of food and fellowship ever since. Don has always had an open table policy, and is humbled to have mentored and fed hundreds of children from his own dining room table. Inspired to do more, Don and his wife Kristen put together their life savings to found Feeding Children Everywhere. With the help of dedicated friends and volunteers the movement began.
